Student Conduct
Students are expected to conduct themselves, both in person and online, in a manner that
brings credit to themselves, their schools, and the affiliates they represent. Chaperones are
responsible for the behavior of the students in their charge.


NHD Rules and Policies for Participants
Please remember that National History Day is concerned not only for the safety and well-being
of students, but also for upholding the wishes of parents, teachers, school principals, and the
many supporters who have a vested interest in the students' participation. As guests at the
University of Texas at Arlington, you are expected to abide by the same rules the University has
established for its students.

To ensure that your stay is pleasant and trouble-free, you must observe the following rules:

  • You may not physically harm, threaten to harm, or harass any person, including provoking and/or engaging in physical fights or malicious pranks.
  • Alcoholic beverages or other drugs are expressly prohibited except those prescribed by a doctor.
  • Possession of any weapons, firecrackers, or other flammable materials is prohibited.
  • You may not tamper with the fire system or fire safety equipment. You may not set or fuel a fire of any size.
  • You are responsible for complying with the requests of all chaperones and University of Texas at Arlington officials, including cooperating in cases where you are aware of rules being broken by other students.

What is Texas History Day?

Each year thousands of students, encouraged by teachers and parents statewide, participate in the National History Day program in Texas. Texas History Day, an affiliate of NHD and is a highly regarded academic program for 6th through 12th grade students. Each year more than 65,000 Texas students join more than 500,000 students across the country for National History Day!

Texas History Day provides a framework for successful student projects. Each student bases their project on the same annual theme and rule book. Students choose historical topics related to a theme and conduct extensive primary and secondary research at libraries, archives, museums, historic sites, and more. Projects are not limited to any particular time period or geographic area. After analyzing and interpreting their source material, create a plan to present their findings to the peers and teachers before moving on to regional, state, and possibly national contests. Students can create and present original research papers, exhibits, performances, websites, and documentaries.

The student projects may be entered into competitions in the spring at one of our regional contests across Texas. Winners from each regional competition will advance to the state contest in Austin. Students who place first or second at our state contest advance to the National Contest held each June held at the University of Maryland at College Park.

Calling all Judges!

Come judge with us at the 2020 Fort Worth/Arlington Regional History Day Contest!

Each year the contest continues to grow and this year is no exception! That means we need more than judges!

NHD is a program that engages students in a year long adventure in which they become research scholars.  Students, working either individually or in a group,  conduct their research and present their findings through one of five media:  historical paper, Exhibit, Performance, Documentary or Website.  As a judge you'll get to share in their excitement as they report their findings at a contest.
